I was discussing the thought the other day that alcoholism is a disease and it is something that you have to live with for the rest of your life. I also have friends and have had many people who were diagnosed with alcoholism tell me personally that they don't believe it is a disease and that they have been delivered from it and it is not something they have to live with.

The question assumes that we have a standard at all? Does the Bible give us a standard of living when it comes to right and wrong? Is there any other option than to just sin everyday? Are we all trapped in this life of sin and just saved by God's grace to never rise above the wrongs? I think many times that the emergent mindset is just a please all as to not offend any demographic in any way at any cost.

One of the greatest assets in a healthy church are the volunteers who make things happen every week. Many churches find it a struggle to keep and motivate volunteers. We tend to see a revolving door when it comes to our volunteers. Yes, we have those who have dedicated their lives to giving their time to the church and its areas of ministry. We don't, however, usually have a 100% return ratio on all of our ministries and areas of action.

Our ministry leaders who rely on volunteers tend to wear a lot of hats. I want to share some ways in which you can reduce the number of hats that you wear by increasing the number of heads attached to a particular area of ministry. The only way to really produce the level of volunteers you need is to reach out to them at the heart level.  If you attract someone by their heart strings they will be more apt to feel an ownership to what you want them to do. I am usually moved by what tugs at my heart and what my passions are in life.

I have spent over 30 years in and around ministry. My father was in the ministry when I was about 7 years old. He became a full time pastor by the time I was 13. My life was swallowed up by ministry. It was a life style of the house hold. Over the years I have spent many hours in pain, triumph, sorrow, and joy. Ministry not only takes a toll on you, it takes a toll on your whole family. Especially when you give your whole life to it as a calling and not just a career.

I know that there are thousands of other people in this world who may have the same or even similar stories as I do. I do want to take the time in the future to share some of those wonderful stories. The point of this blog is to share some insight to modern ministry in the early 21st century. There are 100 different ways to approach this topic so I will do my best to be specific and focused.
